The magnificent native bird, the Tui, flocks to Hereweka Garden - 18th Apr 2012

The Tuis call can be heard throughout the garden at this time of year as it forages on the abundance of nectar and berries in the Autumn garden. Our recent guest were thrilled with our accommodation and especially enjoyed waking to the song of the tui and bellbirds.
We are also excited by the abundance of these birds. When we first came to Hereweka we had no Tuis as there was not enough food on the Otago Peninsula to attract them. 10 years later we had our first visitor, and gradually the population has built. We now have many Tuis coming into the garden especially at this time of year as our planting of Autumn and winter flowering trees and shrubs have matured..
